Javier López Vallejo (born 22 September 1975) is a Spanish footballer who plays for Kavala F.C. in Greece, as a goalkeeper.

Football career

Born in Pamplona, Navarre, López Vallejo began his career at hometown CA Osasuna, making his first appearance for the main side not yet 19, on 15 May 1994, in a 3–0 home win over Sporting de Gijón, although the Navarrese side was already relegated. He became an undisputed starter from 1995–96 onwards.

He signed for Villarreal CF in 1999, alongside teammate Jesús Unanua (also a goalkeeper), appearing in all the matches during 1999–2000, as the side returned to the topflight after a one-year absence, and maintaining first-choice status the following two seasons.

With the signing of José Manuel Reina in 2002 and the subsequent arrival of imports Sebastián Viera and Mariano Barbosa, however, Vallejo was consecutively demoted to backup and third-choice. In order to search more playing opportunities, he joined Recreativo de Huelva on loan for 2006–07, where he played the majority of the Andalusians matches.

In 2007–08, López Vallejo signed for Real Zaragoza on a free transfer, where he would backup former Real Madrid and Spanish international César (two matches played). As the latter moved to Tottenham Hotspur in August 2008, he became first-choice, with Zaragoza now playing in the second level, and was instrumental as the Aragonese immediately returned to the topflight.

López Vallejo started 2009–10 on the bench, then became first-choice over Juan Pablo Carrizo; however, he lost his position in January 2010, with new coach José Aurelio Gay and, on the 19th, was released by mutual consent. He immediately found a new club, joining Levadiakos F.C. in Greece, alongside compatriot Enrique Sola, from former club Osasuna.
